Book international flights 2–5 months out
For long-haul routes, airlines release their lowest fare classes early and close them as the plane fills. The sweet spot for international flights is usually two to five months before departure; for domestic US flights, one to three months. Last-minute flight deals do happen, but only on routes with spare seats — it’s a gamble, not a strategy.
