The seasonal window
Non-stop service starts in late March or April and ends in late October. In winter the only way in is via Athens on Aegean or Sky Express, usually with a connection of two hours or more, and JTR itself operates a much reduced schedule.
Peak is July and August, when non-stops fill months ahead and fares triple. May, early June and late September give you warm sea, open tavernas and fares near the $180 floor.
Low-cost or full-service
Transavia and Volotea fly the non-stops at the lowest fares, but note that Volotea uses Paris Orly, not Charles de Gaulle. Neither includes checked baggage in the base fare — add it at booking, where it is roughly half the airport price.
Aegean via Athens costs more and takes longer, but it includes baggage, protects your connection on a single ticket and runs year-round. On a winter trip it is the only sensible option.
Arriving at Thira
JTR is a single-runway airport with one small terminal, and it saturates in summer. Passport control is minimal for Schengen arrivals, but the baggage hall is slow — budget 40 minutes from wheels-down. Pre-book a transfer: the taxi rank has around 30 cars for the whole island and the queue in August is long.
